NEWSPAPER INDUSTRY FADING PART 1

From the Desk of B. Robert

“This cultural convergence into Digital media requires the knowledge and understanding to use or operate the medium. A large number of consumers, professionals, students, and teachers currently, do not possess the education that professionals require to be competitive in the digital arena"

NEWSPAPER INDUSTRY FADING PART 1

The news on paper industry appears to be quickly fading into extinction and morphing into a digital paperless medium.

It certainly is not for the reason that the news industry itself has no readers. In fact, people want the news in much greater numbers than in the past. More readers are typically, information junkies.

Much of the public has an unquenchable need to obtain and digest more news and information than they have ever read in the past! However, the platform in which they actually obtain their reports and content is flourishing in other style forms.

Media platforms are changing in high numbers and newspapers such as The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and The Chicago Tribune are laying off employees along with eliminating many departments and features from their publications.

Some newspapers including magazines blame the Internet and search engines for their demise.

News agencies pointing the finger at the Internet for their losses is like blaming the pencil for the writing.

Those organizations that see a loss in readership and advertising revenues claim the world wide web is stealing and re-printing their content; thereby allowing readers to access the reports and information online.

There are some who disagree and believe newspapers actually get more traffic and readership from search engines like Google. Many more become aware of newspapers they otherwise would not have accessibility to read.

It is for this reason these newspaper organizations should consider embracing a newer technology in news and go after the advertising income. Instead, they simply continue in the same direction and more and more newspapers are closing down.

Publications would readily appreciate additional readership if they would provide an online version for a portion of their articles.

It seems apparent that digitally distributing content is the wave of the future. Excuses not to take the next step simply will not suffice for any publisher that wants to stay in business.

The days of  type setting are gone, so are the days of creating  products that cause ink stains on your fingers. It is a wise publisher who combines a hard copy with an online content!

The Internet facilitates access to read news from multiple publishers and resources such as websites, eZines, articles, Blogs, emails, newsgroups and more. This style access is easy to search out topics, issues and subjects including interactive links, whereas one regular news paper is limited to that particular source.

I wish this print was larger!

However, there are two sides to the coin. Enabling a Big Brother informational system is setting an opportunity resulting in propaganda and control of what actually is searchable.

For example, Google has become an empire of content with the ability to control information flow and resources.

In fact, Google does censor and prioritize many search results in the USA and other countries. Google limits search results for sites that receive hundreds of thousands hits, yet scarcely show up in the indexing returns. As examples; Blogs on myspace.com and yahoo.com groups barely show results in a Google search and appear to be invisible to Google.

Although, news papers have for too long monopolized the media industry, many of them have yet to not realize the power of the Internet.

The Internet also takes on an interactive networking community by the users of its elements, eventually, enabling the results of the power to be within the people who use the services.

The Internet's allowable interactivity enhances control for an ordinary person in many variations to be recognized; thus offering their participation, involvement and contributions to the objective and resulting issues, conditions, circumstances and or enactments.

In truth and in unison, Rupert Murdoch and David Rockefeller recently referenced the internet requires more containment and control or much of the news makers will eventually go broke.

Additionally suggested, was the industry had done nothing to counter circulation decreases over the past years. This most like being due to a complacent monopoly on the news business as well as further lulling the industry into a false sense of security.
